I’ve started sewing again, which has been so much fun. I don’t know if sewing is particularly frugal, but I am only using fabric I already have, so at least I’m not spending more money, right? This week I made some super cute cloth napkins and I’m working on a shirt that I’ll share next week. Do you sew? I’d love to know what you’ve been working on!
We’re about to go on vacation, and that probably means spending more time at restaurants than we usually do. Plus, with air and car travel, there will be a lot of waiting, so I’ll need some easy activities than can be done anywhere. Such as this fork weaving project from Hands On As We Grow. You know I have a ton of little yarn scraps, and I could even keep a plastic fork or two in my purse for when we need a little something to fill time.
We love a good recycled craft, and these cute floating turtles and crabs from Study at Home Mama are really cute. They use an empty single-serve applesauce or fruit cup and a bit of craft foam, and are easy enough for kids to make with a little supervision.
The girl is way into science, and there’s a clip that sometimes shows on PBS about oobleck, which is, as Planet Smarty explains, a non-Newtonian liquid. That means it behaves like a liquid under normal circumstances and a solid under pressure (so you can run it through your fingers but also punch it). This post runs through how to make it (just corn starch and water) and how to help your child explore it. I’m definitely keeping this handy for a fun summer science experiment.
