Frugal Family Linky February 26

I’ve decided February may be the cruelest month, or at least the craziest month. I think we all forget that it’s shorter and try to cram in the same amount of stuff. Throw in snow days and sniffly kids and the ceiling repair happening in my kitchen as I write this (it’s a long story) and I am feeling like this month just did not go according to plan at all.

The good news is next week, next month is a new challenge to face, and a new chance to make things better and stay on track with what we want out of life.

And completely rethinking what lives on my kitchen counters. Since they’re all empty now anyway.

Last Week’s Featured Posts frugal family linky featured posts

All of which is to say I didn’t really share anything frugal this week. Though I’m still in love with my tooth fairy pillow, which was made from items I had lying around the house, so it’s frugal in a way.

Sunny Day Family is one of my fellow co-hosts, but I can’t resist sharing her awesome dinosaur playset made out of an under the bed box and some other recycled and natural materials. This idea is a great for all sorts of small world play your kid might be into. I’ve used bins for stuff like this before but never thought to cover it with felt. Great job, Laura!

Thanks to my recent talk about using yarn ends, you can bet I loved the tutorial on making wool dryer balls from Our Life Out There. She talks about using wool roving or raw wool, which is much more efficient for the core of your ball, but if you’ve got yarn ends you know are 100 percent wool (non-superwash) you can add them to the outside of the ball for extra color.

And though I don’t have a little this little anymore, Syncopated Mama’s list of thrifty toys for a 20-month-old made me smile. I remember playing with strainers and pipe cleaners, and we were playing with a phone just this morning, so some of these are great “toys” to keep on hand for a long time.
