Man, this has been a week, hasn’t it? My daughter was home sick on Monday, then there was the election, and recovering from the election, so I feel like this is the first day I’m really getting anything done this week. It’s good to move forward, no matter who you supported in the election; we all still have to work together to make it the place we want it to be.
I’m feeling like I really need to make something. That upcycled flower pin I made for Election Day was a lot of fun, and of course you could do it in any color for any occasion. I’ve been doing bits of knitting and it may be cold enough to pull of the giant knit blanket I’ve been working on for years.
Because I’m thinking about upcycling this week, I couldn’t help but share this advent calendar made out of cans from Pillar Box Blue. It’s really cute and easy to make, and if you start saving cans now you’ll have 24 in no time. I love how she put the numbers on in random order so you have to hunt for the right day. And the cans allow you to use a variety of fillers, not just candy, if you like.
I’m a little in denial about the holiday season, even though it is the right time to start planning advent calendars. But let’s look at some Thanksgiving crafts, too, before we move completely into green and red territory, OK?
First up, these little turkey treat cups from Creatively Homemade. She used a bunch of different paper punches to make hers, but you could also cut out shapes by hand if you don’t, say, have an oval punch. You could use these same pieces and let the kids assemble their own turkeys, with or without the treat in the center.
And if you like to do place cards for Thanksgiving, these little wood turkey place card holders from Lolly Jane are easy to make and really cute. They’re made out of wood rounds and paper, and of course you could just make some for decor if you don’t do place cards.

Don’t forget to grab our “featured on” button if you like!
There are just a few simple rules:
- Link to a specific post, not your home page.
- Link up something YOU made/wrote/created.
- Giveaways, other link parties, Etsy shops or business links are not accepted.
- Don’t link and run. Try to visit at least one link and show them some love. You may make a new friend.
- Have fun!
