This crochet ghost pattern is really easy to make, and you can make different sizes using different weights of yarn. It’s worked from the top down, shaping the head with increases and decreases, then increasing for the body of the ghost.
Materials
For the crochet ghost shown you’ll need about 8 grams of worsted/medium/weight 4 yarn in white. This is deep stash and I’m not sure what it was. You can also use DK weight yarn but you’ll probably want a smaller hook for that.
For this one I used a G/4.25 mm crochet hook (some brands also call this a 6). A locking stitch marker is handy for keeping track of where you are in the pattern.
You’ll also need a little bit of stuffing, scissors, a yarn needle and some black yarn or embroidery floss if you want to add features. You could also use tiny buttons, bits of ribbon or anything else you like.

Here you can see two variations for the crochet ghost described below, along with my tassel ghost and air dry clay ghosts.
How to Make a Crochet Ghost
You can either use a magic circle or a chain to start. Here I chained 4 and joined the chain into a ring with a slip stitch.

Either way you’ll then work 6 single crochet stitches into the ring.

Work 2 single crochet stitches in each stitch on the next round. You will have 12 stitches. Place a stitch marker in the last stitch if desired.
Work a single crochet stitch in each stitch.

*Single crochet the first stitch, then work 2 single crochets in the next stitch. Repeat from * around. You will have 18 stitches.
Work 3 rounds working a single crochet in each stitch.
*Single crochet 1 stitch, then single crochet 2 together. Repeat from * around. 12 stitches remain.

Work a single crochet in each stitch of the round.

If you want to add features to the face, it would be easiest to do now. Stuff the head as desired.
Single crochet 2 together around. 6 stitches remain.
Work a single crochet in each stitch of the round.
Making the Ghost Body
Now we’re going to make the body of our crochet ghost by increasing again. You can do this however you like and however much you like to make a ghost body you like.

On this version I did the increase in every stitch (single crochet 2 in each stitch around), then one round plain, then single crochet 1, single crochet 2 in the next stitch around.

From there I continued to increase with one additional stitch between the increases each round. That is the next round would be single crochet 2, then work 2 single crochet in the next stitch around, then the next round is 3 single crochets between the increases and so on.
Here I got to 5 stitches between the increases (that gives me 42 stitches total) and then worked 3 rounds of single crochet without increases to give it a little more height without making the body fuller. At that point I decided my crochet ghost was tall enough (it’s 4 inches/10 cm tall) and finished it off, weaving the yarn end into the inside.

Here the ghost is posing with my Halloween countdown calendar. You can adjust the folds in the body how you like to make it look like a ghost.
Altering the Pattern
There are lots of different ways you can make this crochet ghost your own.

I made a second version without the single rounds of single crochet between the increase or decrease rounds. So I worked the two increase rounds, three rounds straight and the two decrease rounds to form the head. This makes it rounder, which I liked. This one also started with a magic circle. Shown above is what it looks like before the straight rounds at the end.

I also didn’t add any facial features and went straight from the decreases on the head to the increases on the body. Again I worked until there were 5 stitches between the increases and then 3 rounds straight. I finished with a picot edging. It kind of makes the body look more like a dress, or like the ghost dressed up in a bed sheet.
You can change the size by increasing more or working rounds between the increases or using a different weight of yarn. Add different facial features or other embellishments to make these crochet ghosts your own!
