I got this set of tiny frames for my birthday, so of course there had to be a tiny cross stitch Christmas ornament to fill one of them! But this little cross stitch project could be worked in a little hoop, made into a pillow type ornament or even turned into a cross stitch patch or pin.
Materials

This little frame is about 1.5 inches/3.8 cm across from the outside of the frame to the outside of the frame. It was part of this set of mini frames, which I’m sure you’ll be seeing all year for different purposes.
You’ll also need a tiny bit of cross stitch fabric (mine is 14 count), red and white cross stitch floss, a sewing needle and a pair of scissors (or two if you don’t cut thread and fabric with the same scissors.
How to Stitch the Cross Stitch Christmas Ornament
I decided to make my mini cross stitch ornament a stocking, but you can draw your own chart if you want something else. My design is 11 stitches across and 15 rows tall, and you can see that it pretty well fills the frame, so I wouldn’t go much bigger unless you have a bigger frame.

I started stitching at the bottom and worked back and forth in rows. Make sure you leave a little space all the way around for ease in framing.

When the stitching is done, try to press the fabric through the frame to make a circular mark to show what will be framed. Cut a little outside of that circle and then put the cross stitch Christmas ornament in the frame.

I would say keep this cut circle a little bigger than you think you might need. I didn’t do a great job, which is why my piece isn’t perfectly centered. But I like it anyway.

These little frames come with a screw and bolt you can install and tighten to hold everything in place.
Nestle the ornament in the tree or add a hook. You could also tie it to a gift bag to make it part of a present.
Other Options for Tiny Christmas Cross Stitch

If you don’t have a tiny frame handy, you can turn this into a pillow ornament like my embroidered Christmas ornament or the snowflake cross stitch ornament. Here’s how to work blanket stitch on cross stitch if you like the edge on the embroidered ornament.
This would also be cute as a patch or button, or just sewn onto a piece of clothing (like on the pocket of a shirt) as if it were a patch even if you’re not patching a hole.
I’d love to hear how you would use this little cross stitch Christmas ornament in your decor!
