I have a bunch of tiny frames that I have used for cross stitch projects but I wanted to come up with some other uses for them, thus these easy decoupage pendants or little artworks in tiny frames.
About the Frames
These frames came in a set from Amazon when I wanted to use a frame for a tiny cross stitch project. The set I have came with 16 little hoops in various sizes and shapes.
They’re really cute and I love them as little pendants, but it was unlikely that I was ever going to fill them all with cross stitch, so I started to think about other things I could do with them.
I think they’d be cute with just a little piece of fabric inside, or a tiny painting or collage.
As I was thinking about this I was reminded of the stash of Halloween themed scrapbook paper I had in my closet.
Other Supplies
If you want to make easy decoupage pendants like these, you’ll need little bits of scrapbook paper. Mine are from a Halloween pack from JoAnn (RIP, here’s some sort of similar) but you can use a floral paper, another holiday or anything you like.
You’ll also need a pencil, scissors and a cutting knife and mat, decoupage medium (I make my own with this decoupage medium recipe) and a paint brush. If you want to paint the frame you can use paint or paint pens or even markers for that.
How to Make Easy Decoupage Pendants
First pick your shape and the thing you want to feature if there’s something special on the paper to include on your pendant. Here I picked a paper with spiders and another with cats.
Trace the outside of the frame with a pencil to get a smaller shape to work with. Cut out that shape.
Add decoupage medium to the blank disc that fits your frame and place the paper where you want it.
Allow to dry, then trim any excess paper around the edges with your craft knife. Try not to cut the wood blank as you go.
Apply decoupage medium to the top (and sides, if you want) and allow to dry.
In the meantime you can decorate your frame if you want. I used a black paint pen on the spider one and a gold marker on the cat.
When everything is dry, assemble the frame by putting the frame part around the decoupaged blank. Use the little screw to hold the frame in place.
I called this a decoupage pendant but you can also just display the tiny frame, which I will definitely be doing with these come Halloween time.
