These finger knit wreath Christmas ornaments take just minutes to make, are a perfect use for a little bit of leftover yarn and they can be so much more than ornaments for the tree! I think these would be super cute as napkin rings, or use them to decorate packages, make a garland with little wreaths hanging down — whatever you like.

Supplies

For each finger knit wreath you’ll need a couple of yards of yarn. For the blue one I used a tiny bit of Lion Brand Hometown in what I think is San Diego Blue.

The green and red one is a mix of stuff from my stash including a couple of Red Heart Super Saver colors, a bit of Brown Sheep Nature Spun worsted and a long retired bulky singles yarn.

Other than yarn you’ll need your fingers, a pair of scissors, a yarn needle and whatever embellishments you want to add.

Making a Finger Knit Wreath

For the blue wreath I used just three stitches. Learn how to finger knit if you don’t already know how!

I worked as many rows as I could with the little yarn ball that I had. That ended up being 7 rows.

Bind off, cut the yarn and take the yarn end through the last stitch. Pull on both ends of the piece to make it look more like a solid piece of knitting.

Use the yarn end and a yarn needle to sew the ends of the knitting into a loop. Hide the yarn ends inside the knitting and trim any excess yarn.

For the red and green one I used four strands of medium to chunky weight yarn and worked with 4 stitches. This one is 10 rows long.

Decorating Your Wreath

Just as you can make a finger knit wreath Christmas ornament with any yarn you like, you can also finish it in any way you like.

For the blue one I opted for a red bell tied on with a bit of skinny silver ribbon. So cute!

The bigger wreath I just added a metallic gold bell, which is attached with one of the yarn ends.

I used the bells because they were handy and as I write this my Christmas things are still in the attic. But you could use holiday buttons (even a star shape would be cute), ribbon, sequins, beads or any little bits and bobs you want to add to your wreaths.

These finger knit wreaths are so quick and easy to knit you’re sure to want to make a bunch and embellish them lots of different ways. If you try it, I’d love to hear what you do!
