I’ve been doing a craft room purge, which means I’m finding lots of little treasures, so I wanted to show you how to make stickers with your own little bits and leftovers.
Materials
All you need to make stickers is parchment paper, packing tape, scissors and things to turn into stickers.
You can just pull off a bit of parchment from your roll in the kitchen and it will keep you going for a long time.
Any width of packing tape is fine. I just happened to have this 2 inch/5 cm wide tape that is perfect for most stickers, but if you’re making bigger stickers, or a lot of stickers at once, you can use wider tape.
What you want to use to make DIY stickers from is totally up to you. Here I’m showing a couple of leaves I cut out of a piece of scrapbook paper and a little fabric scrap.
You can draw things, use images from old books or magazines, pieces of your kids’ art, make little collages to turn into stickers (that’s definitely on my list!) or use any of the little crafty leftovers you have sitting around.
How to Make Stickers
First, get a little piece of parchment. My parchment paper has cutting lines, so it’s pretty easy to get a straight piece that’s the same width as the tape or close to it. Or you can measure it. Or guess.
Place a piece of packing tape sticky side down on the parchment paper.
Add your thing you want to make into a sticker.
Put another piece of packing tape on top, sticky side down. Press all around to push out any air and make sure the tape is secure around the sticker to be.
Cut out the shape of your sticker. I like to leave a little margin around the shape but it’s not necessary. It just makes me feel like the sticker is more secure.
Using DIY Stickers
As soon as you cut the shape out the parchment paper will probably start curling away from the tape. If you make a bunch of stickers and want to store them, just make sure the paper stays with them.
Peel the parchment paper off the back when you’re ready to use, and position it where you want it.
This is a little notebook I want to start carrying around but I wanted to make it more fun so I’m adding my own stickers. (The cactus is from a children’s dictionary and I used a Xyron Creative Station Lite to make that one, which is sticky on the back but just the paper on the front.)
I also made this little sticker cut out of a piece of fabric to show that you can use different materials. I love the idea of making stickers out of little fabric scraps that seem to small to use in a sewing project.
