Just Do Something

Last week was a really low energy week for me. I didn’t feel like doing much of anything, including anything creative. I didn’t want to work on anything I’d started. I didn’t want to work on anything new.

It was a rut in every sense of the word. Ugh.

When you identify yourself as a creative person, what are you when you’re not being creative?

By Friday I was getting a little sick of my bad attitude and I wrote down the words “just MAKE something!”

And I did. A little.

bunny in progress
It would be pretty cute as a hat in this direction, too. Now I'm trying to decide if I have enough yarn for a real head.

I worked on some knitting. This is a bunny worked from the feet up, but when I saw it upside down I thought it might be a cute hat design, too. Wow, inspiration!

letter A
This A is looking a lot funkier now! The glitter was in dots until she picked it up because she wanted to paint the other side!

I did a little art with the Bit. I first spraypainted this wooden A almost a year ago and she painted it a little back then, but on Saturday she wanted to do some more. She painted a bit and we both used glitter markers on it. It was a small thing, but fun.

eye shadow
I've had this eye shadow for so long the sponge applicator actually disintegrated when I tired to use it.

I put on blue eyeshadow. I didn’t take a picture of that, because I didn’t do a great job, but it did make me feel a little sassy.

Laliberi ring kit
My finished ring from the Laliberi ring kit. It's growing on me.

I made a ring. This kit, sold under the brand Laliberi, as part of the goody bag from the Craft Gossip event (by the way, you can see more about the event and enter into a giveaway for one of the freebies at Craft Gossip). I like big rings, though I’m not 100 percent sure this one is my style (and I like the way it looked in the picture better than mine actually turned out). It was pretty easy to put together, though I had some trouble with getting the wire to do what I wanted.

The kit has the ring frame, beads and wire; it says you need chain-nose pliers and wire cutters, but really just scissors would do. I did use my pliers a bit to pull the wire tighter as I worked, but you could manage without them.

By the end of the weekend, which also included lots of playing with my girl and slightly less rest than I would have liked, I was starting to feel like myself again. Making a little progress and doing some little things energized me for the projects big and small that are ahead.

What do you do when you get stuck in a rut of not wanting to create? I’d love to hear your ideas.
