Peep Printmaking {Iron Craft Challenge}

The Iron Craft Challenge for this week was to craft something with or inspired by Peeps. I already knit a Peep Rabbit this year, and I was planning to knit a chick.

I had the yarn, and I took it with me to BlissDom and … didn’t knit a stitch.

Surprise, surprise.

So I decided to do something just a little bit quicker, which was using the iconic Peep shapes to make stamps you could use on cards, envelopes, heck, even stamp on eggs or just use anywhere you’d stamp for fun.

What You’ll Need

• a piece of craft foam (sticky backed if you want to mount it to something, but that’s unnecessary)
• Peep shapes (I got mine from a printable from my fellow Iron Crafters at the awesome Dollar Store Crafts)
• pencil and pen
• craft knife
• stamping ink (I used some StazOn in Royal Purple, because it was handy)

What You’ll Do

1. Print out the shapes you want to use. With the printed out shape on top of your foam, trace the shape with pencil, pressing down hard enough to leave a mark on the foam.
2. Remove the printed paper and go over the shape a couple more times with a pen, pressing hard.
3. Use a craft knife to cut the foam around the shape. (You could also actually cut out the shape if you wanted a stamp more than a print block.)
4. Saturate with ink and stamp.

Project Ideas

I inked my stamp once and then stamped across a piece of cardstock to test it out. I think just that would be cute as a card, with “Happy Spring” or some other sentiment on it.

You could also use them to stamp bookmarks, as a single image on a card, stamp it and cut out the image and then mount it to something else, whatever.

I also happened to have some cute green envelopes that I stamped a bunny onto. So cute for spring, even if it’s not an Easter card (the envelopes actually go with some thank you notes).
