This DIY flower frog made with air dry clay is an easy craft to make flower arranging easier.
What is a Flower Frog?

There are different kinds of flower frogs, some with needles that you stick the flowers into and some with holes that you slide the stems into that sit at the top of a vase.
The idea is that it makes arranging flowers easier and it gives them a little breathing room in a vase. This version works great for a can that has an interior lip, but I think it would also work for Mason jars, or even regular vases if you make sure the flower frog is the same size as the opening of the vase (or smaller and it can sit lower in the vase if it needs to).

I wanted to use this can from some Japanese snacks as a vase, but since it has such a wide mouth I didn’t want the flowers to all clump to one side, so this was the perfect opportunity to make a DIY flower frog.
How to Make a DIY Flower Frog

This flower frog is made from air dry clay so first you will need to buy or make some air dry clay (here is the air dry clay recipe I use).

Grab a handful of clay and roll it out flat to a size bigger than the top of your can or vase. I used the can to roll it out.

Use the top of the can to press into the clay to make the size you need your flower frog to be.

My clay stuck a little so if that happens to you, smooth out the edges as best you can.

Use a wooden skewer or similar poking device (I used a metal drink stirrer) to make holes in the clay disk. I wish my holes were a little bigger than shown, so wiggle the skewer or stick around to make the holes a little bigger if you like.

Allow the flower frog to dry as usual or dry it in the oven, which is what I did. It took about 20 minutes.

Using a Flower Frog

This DIY flower frog just sits on the top of the can so you can place individual stems through each hole and put water in the can to keep them hydrated.

My little bouquet didn’t fill all the holes but it’s still really cute! I’ll have to make more DIY flower frogs for my Mason jars and other containers I use for flowers in the summer.
