I’ve shared how to sew a corner bookmark before but never how to make a corner bookmark with paper. That’s a shame, because it’s a quick and easy paper craft project both kids and adults can do, and they make great bookmarks for books of any size. Let’s get down to it.
What You’ll Need
All you need to make a corner bookmark with paper is a square of paper of just about any size you like.
The bigger the paper the bigger the bookmark, of course. The paper I’m using in the demo is a piece of origami paper that’s 6 inches/15.24 cm square.
Whatever size your paper is, the bookmark will end up being half that width. So this one is 3 inches/7.62 cm on a side.
I also made one with origami paper that’s a little bigger, and one with a smaller square of wrapping paper. Your paper should be flexible enough to fold easily but you can use whatever you want (probably not card stock).
If your paper isn’t already square, cut it to size. You can also make the first fold and then square off the edges if needed.
How to Make a Corner Bookmark with Paper
Once you’ve got your square of paper, fold it in half from the bottom to the top, making a wide rectangle.
Take one of the bottom corners and fold it up so the corner meets the corner at the top and the long side of the triangle on that side now is at the center line of the big triangle.
Repeat on the other side.
Unfold those sides before you do the next step.
Using just the top layer of paper, fold the top tip of the triangle in half down so the tip is touching the bottom of the triangle. Here the other side of my paper is blue.
Fold one of the side triangles in again as before. This time tuck the tip down into the pocket made by the fold you made in the last step.
Repeat on the other side and you’re done!
To use, just slide the bookmark over the corner of the page you want to mark, with a few pages being held inside the bookmark as you can see above. Then just close the book.
Once you get the hang of making corner bookmarks it will probably take you about a minute to make one. And you can decorate them in all sorts of ways to turn them into animals or use fun patterned paper for different holidays or even to match the theme of your book.
You’ll want to keep some in your analog bag for those inevitable trips to the library or bookstore!
