I was given a free brush to review for this post, but all opinions are my own.
I have a confession: I almost never brush my daughter’s hair. It’s a super curly, tangly mess that I usually call “crazy hair” with more or less affection depending on the circumstances.
I don’t know what to do with curls. I have pretty straight, fine hair. I know how to deal with it.
We’ve used detangling spray (and that helps, when she’ll let us use it) and pretty much any kind of “gentle” brush out there. They pretty much all still end in tears.
So I was excited to try Knot Genie, a detangling brush that is supposed to “magically” detangle hair. The brush, which is about the size of my hand and looks like a horse brush, uses flexible bristles of different lengths to go through hair more gently with less breakage.
It’s good for all types of hair, including curly and straight, wet or dry, extensions and synthetic hair (you can bet I’ll be trying it on some dolls soon).
The girl was excited to try it, and on the less messy parts of her hair she found that it was easy to use and she liked that it didn’t pull any hair out.
When it came to the back of her head, there were still ouches and tears, but admittedly she practically had a dreadlock going on back there. I told her if we did it more regularly — and maybe with detangler, too — it wouldn’t be so bad. We’ll see if she’s willing.

Having a child with a different hair type then you has to be a struggle. Hopefully this brush can help in keeping the maintenance a little less intense.
In my family, my daughter has the messiest hair-it is fine, thin and gets knotted up when she sleeps. Unfortunately her 3 nieces have the same problem, and brushing in the morning is always a struggle for them just as it was for my daughter when she was younger.
My oldest has the most tangled hair, by far. We use one of these, plus detangling spray, plus extra conditioner!
I have the messiest hair in the family – I have curls that are very tangly, even when they are short!
My daughter probably has the messiest hair — she doesn’t like it when i brush it because she says her dad does a better job!
My hair is horrible! I haven’t ever had a brush that actually works. I have been using detangle spray by the bottle! Help!!!!
I can’t seem to get the rafflecopter to work… Not sure what’s up. My youngest son has long hair and it’s so messy and tangly!
Every morning we struggle with getting the tangles out before school. This brush looks like it could help the mornings go smoother, which would be wonderful!
My little girl…she has the most awesome bed head ever. 🙂
My hair is so frizzy! I am ready to give up! Would love to try this. Thank you so much 🙂
