The other morning, after we had been out on a date, the girl woke us up just a little entirely too early. She was totally ready to go and we totally were not.
As husband made pancakes, I offered the girl a project I’d been saving for an occasion when I needed something simple to fill time. This foam jack o’lantern play project is super easy to pull together with a little shopping or from supplies you may already have in the house. And it filled the gap until we could get some coffee, which was perfect.
What You’ll Need
- foam pumpkin cutouts (mine came from Walmart) or orange craft foam cut into pumpkin shapes
- black sticky-backed craft foam (or regular craft foam and glue)
- pen and scissors
- sparkly and holiday themed stickers (optional)
What You’ll Do
Cut out pumpkin shapes if needed.
Draw shapes on the back of the sticky-backed craft foam and cut out. I made triangles, circles, squares, rectangles and some mouth shapes.
She decided she wanted to make a witch on one, and it’s my favorite.
This activity got us through the early morning until breakfast and she actually had a lot of fun with it, too. We have plenty of supplies to do it again if we need to, and we may use these as decorations on the Halloween table as it gets closer to the big day.
Do you have any go-to activities to do with kids when you’re super tired? I’d love to hear your ideas!
