Make a Cardboard Roll Animal {Craft Challenge, Day 91}

Something that is good to try when you aren’t feeling very creative is to go back to kid crafts.

It happens that we have a whole lot of cardboard rolls (TP rolls or paper towel rolls, it doesn’t matter what you use) lying around, which got me thinking of using one in a craft. Make an animal out of a cardboard roll. Try it with your kids!

I decided I wanted to make a little animal with one, and that it would be an owl.

How to Make a Cardboard Roll Animal

You can take this a bunch of different ways, but I started with a cardboard tube and folded it in half so it would be flatter to draw on. cardboard tube

I pressed the top edges toward each other to make the ear shapes on the sides.

I drew big owl eyes. owl eyes cardboard roll

I added a nose and a body with wings, and doodled scallops everywhere.

I decided to make mine a little fancier with a colorful pattern on the wings. cardboard roll owl

You could add googly eyes, craft feathers, felt, paint or anything else you wanted.

Of course you don’t have to make an owl, either. I found this board on Pinterest that, as of this writing, had 102 cardboard tube crafts, so pick one that suits your fancy or use an idea as a jumping off point for something you want to make.

This is a simple but fun craft idea you can do with your kids and try over and over making all sorts of animals and other creations.
