This DIY linen spray is easy to make with just a few ingredients and it’s a great way to freshen up sheets, blankets and clothes before or after storing them, or to make your bed smell nice before bed.
Why Use Linen Spray?

Linen spray is a gentle way to add a bit of fragrance to a room. It can help eliminate odors, and the scents can help set a mood, depending on the essential oils you choose.
Because I was thinking of my DIY room spray as being used on linens and clothes before you put them into storage (or to refresh clothes that have been stored a long time) I focused on essential oils that are helpful at repelling moths, but you can use whatever scents you like, just like in my room spray recipe.
Lavender, of course, is a great one to use on your sheets before bed, as it will make them smell nice and can be relaxing.
What is Linen Spray Made of?

When you make your own DIY linen spray you can make sure it’s made with the best ingredients that aren’t harmful to fibers or to the people around them.
The base of linen spray is mostly water (distilled is great if you have some) and alcohol, though you can also make it with witch hazel.
Adding essential oils imparts fragrance and other properties such as relaxation, energizing or repelling pests.
How to Make DIY Linen Spray

For this DIY linen spray I used distilled water, 91 percent isopropyl alcohol and three kinds of essential oils: cedar, lavender and rosemary.
You’ll need a measuring cup and a spray bottle as well to make it.

Combine a cup of water and 1/4 cup of alcohol (you can also use vodka or witch hazel, depending on what you have on hand).
Add about 30-40 drops total of your essential oils. I did 20 drops of cedar, since it is most commonly used for moth prevention, and 10 each of lavender and rosemary. It smells most strongly of the cedar, of course, and I can’t really smell the lavender, so if want to use your diy linen spray mostly on your bed and like the lavender smell, go with more of that oil. (Chamomile would also be great to add to a bedtime blend.)

You could also add citrus or any oils that you like. Orange and cedar is nice together, or add some vanilla. Rosemary and peppermint is great for energy if you spray it on clothes before wearing between washings. Make this linen spray recipe your own based on what scents you like.
Once you make your mixture, pour it into a spray bottle. The bottle shown here is actually too small for this amount of linen spray, so I ended up pouring it into a Mason jar (you’ll want to add a lid of course), which is a great way to store the excess if you have a small bottle.

When using your linen spray, make sure your spray bottle is on spritz and gently spray the fabric. You don’t want it soaked, so a couple sprays should be enough. If you’re spraying things to put into storage, make sure they are dry before you put them away.
This homemade linen spray is a great way to keep things smelling good between washings or when they’ve been in storage for a long time, like this wool blanket. Once you start using it you’ll probably start putting it everywhere!
