Last year I wrote a series of emails to start the new year, encouraging people to make for 20 minutes for 20 days. This year I decided to add a day a turn it into an ebook: the 20/21 Creativity Jumpstart.

While of course the beginning of a new year isn’t magic, and I’m a big proponent of starting things whenever you decide you want to, the turn of the year can be a good time to reconnect to your priorities.

I want to gently encourage people to start or rekindle a daily creative practice through this challenge, which asks you to make something for 20 minutes a day, for 21 days.

Creativity Can be Habit Forming

While it’s been debunked that it takes 21 days to form a habit, it’s still a nice number for getting you started, and being as we are going into 2021 as I write this, it has a nice symmetry.

If you buy the ebook you will find a daily reading about some aspect of creativity. Some of the topics include:

  • why it’s good to make bad art
  • eliminating distractions
  • keeping a notebook
  • the creative mindset
  • the value of limitations
  • getting out of your comfort zone

Each day there is also a recommendation for further reading (usually related to the day’s topic) as well as an idea or prompt you can use for your 20 minutes if you don’t have a creative project in mind.

The 20/21 Creativity Jumpstart is for Everyone

I truly believe that everyone is and should be creative (it’s in my manifesto, Day 20) and I want to help people to be more creative in whatever way that looks like for them.

It’s why I have this blog and share what I’m making on Instagram and write ebooks and all the rest of it.

Having a daily creative practice is so important because, of course, what we focus on IS our life. If being more creative and having more time for making is something you want in your life, this is a great way to start.

Through the month of January the 20/21 Creativity Jumpstart is just $10 so that it can reach and help as many people as possible. I hope you’ll check it out and let me know what you’re doing to support your creativity in the new year!
