Yes, the kitchen is a mess. But who could resist baking with this girl?

The Bit unexpectedly had the day off today, and I decided last night that I was going to really be with her today and make it special for her and not spend time stressing out over what I wasn’t getting done (or the coffee date I was missing!) because she was home.

I planned to take her out somewhere fun, go out to lunch and have an afternoon of TV and snuggling (which is most afternoons, frankly).

She declared, however, that she wanted to stay home. Which is totally fine by me.

So we played, ran around the house, played a little iPad (which she requested by saying “I haven’t had any screen time today;” how cute is that?) and made cookies.

It had been a long time. She’s a great helper. They were delicious.

Then we packed some up and took them to husband when we met him and coworkers for lunch.

They are, in fact, as yummy as they look. It’s the recipe on the back of the chocolate chip package.

It’s been a really nice day. For both of us, I think. And so much better because I was really with her, not thinking about all the things on my list that will still be on my list tomorrow. (For the record, she’s napping right now; I’m not ignoring her.)

She may not remember this particular day when she’s older, but I hope days like this impress upon her how much she is loved and cared for and that she does have the power to make the world stop. At least for a day.

I hope you get some special time like that with your kids and/or loved ones this weekend.
