These fall sewing patterns are a lot of fun to stitch and great to use as the weather gets cooler.
Things to Sew for the Home for Fall
Fall is a great time to sew projects for the home because it’s great to refresh your decor and accessories for the new season (and for being home more often in winter).

This easy flannel throw from The Girl Inspired is a super simple sewing project to jazz up your couch or use as a tailgating blanket if you make it in team colors. You could do the same thing with fleece if you want a warmer blanket.

Mug cozies are great fall sewing patterns because your coffee or tea will get cold faster in the colder months. These mug cozies from Life Sew Savory are super cute and easy to customize to your decor or to use whatever fabric and buttons you have on hand.

While you’re dressing up the couch, you might want to add a new pillow, too. This autumn leaves pillow from Cluck Cluck Sew is super cute and a great way to use up small scraps from other projects (and to learn how to applique if you don’t already know how). I also love the quilted nine-patch pillow from Life Sew Savory, which you can tell was made with the same fabrics as the mug cozies above.

Jazz up your table and use up some scraps at the same time with some fall place mats. Get the pattern from A Quilting Life. You could also make mug rugs with fall colored fabrics if you don’t have enough fabric for a bunch of place mats.
Accessories for Fall

Turn a blanket or two yards of fabric into a simple and cozy poncho with this pattern from Sew Can She. The fringe is optional but adds a fun look, and the toggle clasp is a lot of fun, too.

If fall takes you to football games and other outdoor activities, you might want to make some simple microwavable hand warmers. They’re super simple to make with any fabric you have on hand, and they make a great gift for someone who spends a lot of time outside in cooler weather.

Like to change out your bag with the seasons? This plaid flannel tote bag is so cute and has deep side pockets as well as patch pockets inside for all your essentials. It uses faux leather for accents, which requires a little special treatment but it’s not that difficult to work with. Get the pattern and tutorial from Orange Bettie.

Infinity scarves are really quick and easy sewing projects that you can easily stuff into your bag and pull out when you need a little extra warmth. This pattern of mine uses lightweight fabric but you can make it out of two yards of whatever kind of fabric you have handy. It would be super cute in flannel, too!
Fall Sewing Patterns for Garments

My first thought when it comes to fall sewing patterns for garments is sweatshirts. I made the sweatshirt tunic from Life Sew Savory a few years ago and I love it. It was a pretty easy pattern and it comes in six sizes. The length is great, too. The drawstring at the neckline is optional (I didn’t do it but might add it if I do another one). And it has pockets!

Looking for a more classic style sweatshirt sewing pattern? Check out this oversized sweatshirt pattern from Tillys Pattern Studio. It comes in 14 sizes up to size 24 and has a hood with drawstring and kangaroo pocket. The pattern includes an illustrated sewing guide so you can make it easily.

For a lighter weight version, check out the Parker Pullover from Peekaboo Pattern Shop. This one is a great one for using up scarps of knit fabric from other projects, or you can do it in a single color. There are seven sizes and you can choose from a relaxed or semi-fitted look. There’s a kangaroo pocket and options for a hood or crewneck finishing, as well as instructions for ways to color block the pattern if you want to use leftovers. There’s even an option perfect for breastfeeding mamas.

In the fall (and, let’s admit it, any other time) I live in pajama pants and lounge pants, and now’s a great time to sew some pants if it’s a project you haven’t tackled before. I like the Hit the Hay adult pajama pants pattern from Peekaboo Pattern Shop because they have a shorts option as well as pants, there are eight sizes for men and women, two inseam lengths for the shorts and three for the pants so you can make them to fit a wide range of people. And pockets, of course! Make them in cotton, flannel or fleece for comfort all year.

And if you’re looking for something a little dressier, why not try this super cute fall pinafore pattern from Indie Pattern. This pattern is rated easy and comes in seven sizes. The pattern comes with detailed, illustrated instructions to make sewing a snap.
