These Mother’s Day crafts suit lots of skill levels, favorite crafts and moms. I’ve broken them down my mom “types,” but scroll though and see if you can find something the moms in your life would love.

Gifts for Moms Who Love to Read

There are a lot of great Mother’s Day crafts to make for moms who love to read. Buy them a book or get a gift card for their favorite local bookstore and make a bookmark or several to go with it.

These fabric bookmarks are probably the easiest to make, and you can make them with whatever fabric scraps you have on hand in whatever size you like. Add a little ribbon for extra cuteness if you want.

Or try some corner bookmarks, which also don’t take a lot of fabric and can use scraps if you like. Or cross stitch a bookmark covered in hearts.

Make sure you also make a book weight or two so mom can read her new book without using her hands.

If mom also likes coffee or tea, you can also make a coffee cup cozy. I have a few options to choose from depending on your craft of choice:

  • This crochet coffee cup cozy uses wattle stitch and has a button so you can use it on a mug.
  • Make an easy coffee cup sleeve with a 22 pin circular knitting machine.
  • While this knit coffee cup cozy has a Halloween theme, you can make a plain one in a single color or stripes for mom.
  • Or make a sweet upcycled coffee sleeve from a bit of sweatshirt sleeve. I love the state and heart details on this one, but you could add any design you like.

Gifts to Make for the Mom Who is Always Cold

OK, this is a category I’m adding for me because I’m always cold, but some moms are like that, and these Mother’s Day crafts are great for moms who need a little extra warmth.

Even if you’re new to knitting or crochet you can make some great projects for mom. A garter stitch scarf is a great gift any time of year, or make garter stitch a little fancier with this one-skein shawl knitting pattern.

Fingerless gloves are also a great gift for moms who are always cold. I have a super simple version that’s knit flat, and another that’s knit in the round so you can choose based on your skill level.

For crochet, consider this sweet messy bun hat, which is perfect for adding a bit of warmth any time of year. Or try a shell stitch scarf, which is really quick to crochet despite the thin yarn (and uses simple single and double crochet stitches).

If you want to make something really cozy, stitch up a granny stitch blanket. You don’t have to make yours as big as mine (though I love the giant one!) but it does go pretty fast once you get into it, whatever size you make.

And if you can sew, a set (or two) or microwavable hand warmers is a Mother’s Day gift you can make in minutes that mom is sure to love and use over and over.

Mother’s Day Crafts for a Little Luxury

If mom could use some pampering (and couldn’t we all?) check out these Mother’s Day gifts that provide a little luxury.

This foot scrub was originally made as an end of the year teacher gift, but it’s great for moms, too, or anyone with feet. It’s quick and easy to make, and really nice to use, so keep some for yourself when you make it.

Mixing up some linen spray (in a prettier bottle than I used) is an easy way to help mom refresh sheets and clothes between washes, or freshen up things that have been in storage.

Melt and pour soap is a great introduction to making soap, and you can find lots of cute shapes to make your soaps to make them a little more special. My springtime almond and vanilla melt and pour soaps were made in cute insect shapes, but you can use whatever mold you like.

And while you’re making soap, you might as well make a nice washcloth to go with it. A waffle stitch crochet washcloth is pretty, fun to make and great at scrubbing, or try a bias knit garter stitch washcloth (in one color or two) that takes cleaning your face or anything else to the next level.

While you’re cleaning you also need a place to put your rings, so why not make the mom in your life an air dry clay ring holder? This is an easy project she’s sure to appreciate, and you can stamp “mom,” “love” or anything else you like in the bottom.

This little heart cross stitch pendant or keychain may not exactly be a luxury in terms of cost or the time it takes to make it, but giving mom a moment to remember your love is a luxury she’ll always choose to take.

A twisted headband made on the knitting machine gives mom the luxury of a keeping her hair out of her face, which I can tell you is always appreciated. This one is a quick project, too!

Mother’s Day Crafts for Creative Moms

If you got your love of crafting from a mom in your life, thank them with a creative Mother’s Day gift like these.

Moms who sew or quilt would love a nine-patch pincushion, which is easy to make, cute and super useful. You can also make some fun needle minders with air dry clay to help them keep their needle with their cross stitch or embroidery project while they are working, no poking the fabric required.

If mom likes to create on the go, help her make a travel kit for her favorite craft with some basic supplies (of course she’ll need to supply her own project for some of these, or make it a travel craft kit with all the supplies for her next project included). I have some ideas to get you started for different crafts:

You could also crochet mom a basket (this one is made with T-shirt yarn, but the idea is the same regardless of what kind of yarn you use) she can use to store yarn, notions, or apples.

Or grab a little notebook and embroider on the cover so she can capture ideas, sketches and more while on the go.

Of course these gift ideas you can make aren’t just for moms and they aren’t just for Mother’s Day, so keep this list handy whenever you need easy crafts you can make as gifts.
